Woohooo! Got it figured out! This is not a Spelling Cow issue. It's a phpBB one. If you make a post with nothing put spaces, then the spaces get trimmed and the post is stored as nothing. It works on phpBB.com:

So this is officially not a bug ... of Spelling Cow anyway Very Happy
