First, I think you are talking about the popup version, correct? (I just need to make sure)
In anticipation of getting on slashdot.org, I had to do some pretty wacky things with proxies to distribute the load. I did see the error you described when I was using an anonymous proxy to test from my browser, but didn't see it on several others I tried.
What's your website URL? I'll be sure to check it out.
Thanks,

All of my users are receiving this error whenever they post, send PM's etc. We have been using your pop-up spellchecker for a few months now with no issues until today. Also, it is random, it seems to happen like 3 out of 5 times.
I will send you the url via PM because it is an Adults-Only type of site.
Proxy Error
The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
The proxy server could not handle the request POST /phpBB2/spell-body.php.
Reason: Max-Forwards has reached zero - proxy loop?

Hi. I just deleted the new thread I started when I realized this was the same error I am getting on my forum. I was going to try installing the upgraded version but I wanted to sort this problem out first before I did.
I've had the error in the pop-up spell checker since yesterday. I assume you won't need the URL since this is the same problem the others have reporter here, but if you do, let me know and I will send you the password for a test account via PM. |

Adult only? Send that link this way, as well.
Yes, I'm over the age of 18.

Same problem on my forum.
Sometime last night I stated seeing the following.
Proxy Error
The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
The proxy server could not handle the request POST /phpBB2/spell-body.php.
Reason: Max-Forwards has reached zero - proxy loop?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Apache/2.0.52 (Red Hat) Server at bessy.spellingcow.com Port 80
Spelling cow HAD been working with NO problems for the last couple of months prior to this. |

| I hate to be a stickler, but it would be nice to know that someone is at least looking into issue if at all possible. A lot of my users are freaking out, and most are not very technical and are having a difficult time even turning off the spellchecker so they can post again. I would prefer to not have to remove SpellingCow and be forced to install a different SpellChecker and retrain users. |

Nuttzy is currently looking into it.
We'll make sure to let you know when he has a fix for it! |

What I had to do was pull the spelling cow code out of "posting.php" so people could go ahead and post and the spelling check became optional for everyone.
Tonight the error is:
Error loading spelling words info
DEBUG MODE
SQL Error : 1062 Duplicate entry '16777215' for key 1

Spelling cow appears completely out of commission...

Kinda bites as a PAID user of this product.
I have had to instruct all of my paid customers to DISABLE spelling Cow in their CP settings.
Sometimes it works
Sometimes it doesn't
All the time it has become a real problem over the last few days. |

OK.
Just tried it again to see if there is any progress.
NEW ERROR NOW.
So far as I know we have made NO changes on our end whatsoever.

My users started receiving error messages on 9/5.
| Code: | Error updating spelling word info
DEBUG MODE
SQL Error : 1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 3
UPDATE phpbb_spelling_words SET position = 0 WHERE word_id =
Line : 407
File : /usr/local/www/data-dist/www/public_html/spell-16/spell.php |
We are still using the pop-up version. Didn't even know there was an in-line version until I came here to post about the problem.
Ninja edit: the above error message was received using a test string of just "tessssting" and trying to return to the text box w/o fixing the spelling.
I just received the same error as chistopher using a longer phrase.

I just tested in the past 20 minutes (about 16:00 est) and it worked.
I was coming from inside my companies firewall/proxy farm if that matters. |
